Greetings, Rotarians and friends of Rotary!
We are excited to share with you an update on one of our ongoing projects, the Kwakrom Anglican Basic School Toilet Facility Project. The sod cutting for this project was done in May 2023 and is a testament to our commitment to improving the lives of the communities we serve.
The Kwakrom Anglican Basic School, located in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region, has been in existence for the past 27 years. The school, with an enrolment of 225 students and a staff of 25, had no washrooms for students and teachers. This situation forced them to resort to the nearby bushes, exposing them to harm and contributing to environmental degradation.
Our project aims to provide a modern and sustainable 10-seater toilet facility, with 6 seats for the students and 4 for the staff. Additionally, we plan to provide a mechanized borehole with a water tank to supply potable water for the school. This initiative will create a safer and more decent environment for the students and teachers.
The school compound has available land for the new proposed toilet, making it an ideal location for this project.
The objectives of this project are manifold. We aim to provide a safe and decent environment for students and teachers to answer nature’s call, prevent loss of study time, protect the environment, and prevent diseases.
This project aligns with Rotary International’s focus area of ‘Water and Sanitation’. We are working in collaboration with the Kwakrom District Assembly, community elders, District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service and various Rotary members to ensure the successful execution of this project.
We are grateful for the support and partnership of all stakeholders involved in this project. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of the students and staff of Kwakrom Anglican Basic School.
